Dr. Asha Wilson Artis, DDS
Hello, I’m Dr. Artis!
I’m originally from Savannah, Georgia. I attended Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina where I received my undergraduate degree in biology. I then went on to become a Research Technician II at Duke University Center for Human Genetics where I extracted DNA from donor samples for Autism and Alzheimer research studies.
While working at Duke University, I discovered that I wanted to help people in a different way, so I decided to become a dentist. In 2011, I obtained my Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from VCU School of Dentistry. Following dental school, I completed a one year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. After residency, I relocated back to the state of Virginia and have been practicing in the Hampton Roads area since 2012.
I love what I do! I love creating confident, beautiful, healthy… smiles!
I believe that if I can help change how a person feels about him/herself in a positive way, then I am convinced that I am fulfilling my life’s purpose.

Dr. Gilbert U. Bigelow, DDS
Capt. G.U. Bigelow, DC (Ret) attended Hampton University and Northern Virginia Community College for his undergraduate studies from 1974-1977. He then matriculated to the dental school at Howard University College of Dentistry from which he graduated in 1981.
Following graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. Dr. Bigelow completed an Advanced Clinical Program in Exodontia at the Naval Dental Center in Parris Island, South Carolina.
Dr. Bigelow’s tours of duty include 12th Dental Company, Cherry Point, NC, 21st Dental Company, Marine Corp Base, Kaneohe, HI; Pearl Harbor Naval Dental Center, Pearl Harbor, HI; Department Head Afloat, USS John F. Kennedy; Clinic Director Keflavik, Iceland; Naval Dental Center Norfolk, VA.
Prior to his commissioning to the Naval Dental Corp, he was a Special Operations member of the USAF Combat Control Team with assignments to Norton AFB, California; NATO assignments to RAF Mildenhall, England; 834th Air Division, Tan Don Nhut, Vietnam; Air Force Tactical Command, Langley, AFB, VA.
Capt. Bigelow has worked on every continent in the world in Special Operations Tactics with all NATO countries. He received 3 Bronze Stars, 1 with Valor, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service and numerous other awards and accommodations. He is a master parachutist, HALO qualified, a dive master, 97 combat flying hours, and expert marksman in both pistol and rifle.
He enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren, riding his motorcycle, and cooking at family gatherings.

Dr. Artis and team performance was exceptional including the front desk staff. I had an emergency due to my capped tooth breaking down to the gum it was extremely painful, I am extremely grateful for her staff working me in and resolving my problem. I highly recommend this Dentistry and am excited and looking forward to my return visit at the end of this month.

I Absolutely LOVE this dentistry. They treat you like family! From the time you step foot in the door, you are instantly greeted with a warm welcome from the beautiful receptionist JENNIFER. All the staff is very warming and professional! The building is always clean and fresh. My personal hygienist is “MELANIE”. She is so knowledgeable and has such a great sense of humor. She always perform a great job on my cleaning. If you haven’t checked them out yet, I advise you too. And last but not least Dr. Biggalow is well respected. He knows his business and it shows. Thank you guys for always keeping my smile so pearly. 😊
